FISHING

“Fishing needs patience. Sometimes it takes about a day for the angler to wait for the fish to be caught."

“The times when the bait strikes the fish and the angler struggled to pull the hook were the unforgettable moment to the anglers.”

It is not easy anyway, but it is hard to do it. Within hooks and bait are not enough to bring us to the reality life of fishing. Patience is one of the important aspects in fishing. It will be the satisfaction and happiness to the anglers when they caught the fish. To those who really love fishing, they will spend a lot of money to buy all the fishing equipment including hooks and baits, boats and engine. Only they know the satisfaction and happiness of fishing after all.

On the 20th September 2008, located at the fish pond at Bukit Ekspo, UPM, there were few students involved in a fishing activity. This activity was one of the curriculum courses in UPM. Students who are interested in joining the activity, they have to register in the provided groups and each group will be supervised by a supervisor and a facilitator which good in the fishing area. This activity is held every Saturday morning for three hours and this course also exposed to the students about the real life of anglers.

“All will be exposed to the anglers, from choosing the equipments, the right technique of fishing, until choosing the right location for fishing.”

For the very first step of the course, the students will be exposed to the basic fishing activity itself before they try to fish on their own. They will be taught on how to choose the fishing equipments, to set the hooks and baits and also to find a suitable place to fish. After the briefing and a little bit practice, they will experience themselves in fishing.

All sorts of baits, fishing equipments and fishing technique had been taught by the trainer.

Mahri, a-23 year old agriculture student was involved in this activity. For him, this fishing activity was not a new thing but it became his hobby then. He, who has a little bit experience and knowledge, always is a reference to other friends. According to him, the fishing activity was interesting and he could seek for more knowledge.

Mahri is willing to share his knowledge and experience with other friends.

For Sze Kei, a second year English Language student, she joined this course because she wanted to know and to feel the fishing activity. She never tries to fish and had no experience about it at all. But this was not the reason for her not to join the activity. She was lucky because on that day, she caught a 6kg fish. That was really fun because this was the biggest fish ever that she managed to fish since joining the activity.

Knowledge that gained is very useful.
